What We Believe
THE BIBLE
WE BELIEVE the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be verbally inspired of God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life. ( 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
THE TRINITY
WE BELIEVE in one God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. ( Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 57:15; Matthew 28:19)
JESUS
WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. ( Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:35; John 1:1)
HUMANITY
WE BELIEVE that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and that every human being is born with a sinful nature, and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become accountable sinners in thought, word and deed. All humans are sinners in need of salvation, and cannot save themselves. ( Genesis 1:26-27, John 5:40, Ephesians 2:1-3)
THE WORK OF CHRIST
WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood. ( Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:6-9; 2 Corinthians 5:21)
WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into heaven, and in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate. ( Mark 16:6; Acts 1:1-11; Hebrews 3:1)
SALVATION
WE BELIEVE that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior are born again by the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. Salvation is a gift from God, and cannot be earned. Good Works and “trying to be a good person” will never earn you acceptance before God. Only the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus can save us when we simply believe it by faith. If a person tries to earn their salvation by their works, they are forfeiting salvation and forsaking the work of Jesus for them. ( John 3:5; Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:23)
THE RETURN OF CHRIST
WE BELIEVE in "that blessed hope," the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. ( Titus 2:11-14; Luke 12:35-40; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
JUDGEMENT & ETERNITY
WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting felicity of the saved and the everlasting conscious suffering of the lost. ( Luke 16:19-26; Luke 23:42,43; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9; Revelation 20:11-15)
BAPTISM
WE BELIEVE that Christian Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, to show forth in a solemn and wonderful way our faith in the crucified, buried and risen Savior and our union with HIM in death to sin and resurrection unto newness of life. ( Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 18:19)
CHRISTIAN LIVING
WE BELIEVE that each believer is called to live a holy life unto God, keeping himself un-spotted from the world, and that it is God’s intention that this shall be accomplished in the believer’s life by the believer’s constant dependence on the divine help of the indwelling Holy Spirit. We believe that this experience of deliverance from sin and empowerment for service is designated in the Scripture as the “filling with the Spirit” rather than the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit.” The “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” is the initial act of God, whereby the Spirit indwells you when you first believe, “baptizing” you into the spiritual body of Christ, the Church. (1 Cor. 12:13)
For this reason we do not call believers to pursue the baptism of the Holy Spirit as though it were a “second blessing” needed after salvation, since it is already an accomplished fact that occurs the moment someone first believes. . ( Romans 8:14; Romans: 12:1-2; Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 4:17-25; Ephesians 5:18) .
